Risen with Christ

Arise, Shine! Risen with Christ (Colossians 3)

Pastor Phil Derstine 4-6-25

Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. (2) See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the people, but the LORD rises upon you and His glory shall be seen upon you. (3) Nations will come to your light and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”

Colossians 3:1 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

  • Message Bible: So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it.   Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you.  Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ - that’s where the action is.  See things from His perspective.”
  1. Seek those things that are Above
  • Psalm 121:1 “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (2) My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
  • Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
  • A Goal without a Plan is just a wish.
    • Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD…”
  • Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Live as children of light.  (9) For the fruit of the light (Spirit) consist in all goodness, righteousness and truth. (10) And find out what pleases the Lord.”
  • Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
  • Put to death whatever belongs to your earthly nature – cast it out, starve it out, keep it out!
  1. Put on the New Self
  • Colossians 3:10 Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (12) Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
    • Enduo (Gr.) – clothe yourselves, to sink into, to put on.
    • WHAT: Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience.
    • HOW: Forgiveness, put on Love, let Peace rule, be Thankful, do all in Jesus Name!
  • It’s easier to ACT your way to a FEELING than to FEEL your way to an ACTION!
  1. Do ALL in the name of Jesus
    • Wives – submit yourselves
    • Husbands – love as Christ loves
    • Children – obey your parents
    • Parents – provoke not your children
    • Servants – work as unto the Lord
  • Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.  (24) Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

I Corinthians 9:8 (AMP)  “And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him] and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.”
