“…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
One day, while Jesus was teaching, a Pharisee with full knowledge of Judaic law, who was also a lawyer, asked a question for the purpose of tricking Jesus. “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus answered with the words of the Scripture above.
How, you may ask, is it possible to show that kind of total, sold-out love? First of all, you must understand it would be impossible but for the truth in I John 4:19: “We love HIM, because he first loved us.” In the NIV it reads: “We LOVE because he first loved us.” (*Emphasis supplied.) Love is a gift from God. He put that spark of divine love in you in the very beginning of time which enables you to love…everyone.
All forms of worship are designed to express love toward God. Love is expressed through words of praise and thanksgiving. It is expressed by deeds of obedience and submission. Even the giving of your tithes and offerings is an expression of loving worship. (Read Deuteronomy 26.)
Not surprisingly, you discover your OWN needs are met when you first express your love for GOD.
Pray: “Precious Lord God, whether I eat, or drink or whatever I do today, I will try to do it all to Your glory.* Make my cup to overflow with Your love. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
