“… be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:18b-19

Singing in the Spirit begins with the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit gives utterance when stirred, sometimes with words and sometimes with SONG. It is a song to the Lord and brings powerful results.

James 5:13 says that if you are in trouble, you should PRAY; if you are happy, you should SING! There is a powerful connection between prayer and song. For example, in II Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat, when embattled by the enemy all around, fasted and prayed and then entered the battle singing a song of victory. In Acts 16:25-26, when Paul and Silas were imprisoned, they prayed and sang until God came “suddenly” and delivered them. Jonah prayed while in the fish’s belly and then told God he would “sacrifice…with a song of thanksgiving.” (Jonah 2:9,NIV)

The blend of words (intellect) and melodies (spirit) can bring a powerful force to bear upon the circumstances. Like an offensive weapon, your song unites soul and spirit for an explosion of supernatural intervention.

PRAY:  “Worthy Lord, I will ‘offer the sacrifice of praise’* to You continually in a deliberate act of my will and faith today. Fill my heart and mouth with Your song of VICTORY. I pray in Jesus’ Name, amen.”

*Hebrews 13:15 (paraphrased)
