“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

God’s gift of His Son to earth resulted in giving us more than salvation from sin and death. Christ became the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, establishing man’s relationship as adopted sons of God. (See Matthew 5:17 and Galatians 4:4-5.)

The Law had two parts: the moral law (God’s unchanging standard of conduct for all men) contained in the Ten Commandments, and the legislative, judicial, and ceremonial system which God gave to the Israelites when they were in the wilderness.

Jesus fulfilled the Law by His personal obedience to it. Galatians 4:4-5 says that Jesus was born under the Law in order to redeem those under its authority. Of all the Old Testament system sacrifices, Jesus was the completion, the fulfillment, when on the cross He became the final sin sacrifice, because the curse of sin is death. (See Romans 6:23.)

When He was resurrected, Christ became the “first fruits” of all believers who would follow. (See I Corinthians 15:20.)

Because Christ fulfilled the Law, you can now know the gentle mercy and love of Father God.

PRAY: “Merciful Father, thank You for being more than a God of wrath and justice. I am glad it pleased You that in Jesus Your plans would be fulfilled. Amen.”
