“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
The Apostle James is admonishing readers of this verse to DO something with what they have heard! If it is not your habit already, maybe you will have to get “in gear” to get up early enough to attend Sunday School. Even if you have been up late Saturday night and it is painful (God has heard all the excuses.), do it anyway FOR GOD’S SAKE!
In Verse 25b, James goes on to say, “…he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work…” Yes, it is work sometimes to prepare and teach that class, lead that home fellowship group, serve on the prayer line, sing in the choir, or get involved in a street ministry or convalescent home visitation. However, be assured that the wages are “out of this world!”
The rest of Verse 25 reads, “…this man shall be blessed in his deed.” God promises great rewards to those who diligently pursue Him. (See Hebrews 11:6.)
So “get your ear in gear!” Someone wants to meet you at Sunday school or a home group. Get involved in your church!
PRAY: “Father, I thank You for my having ‘heard’ the Gospel. Today I want to put what I have heard into practice. Please show me the opportunity. In Jesus’ Name, I ask it. Amen.”
