7 Biblical "Be" Attitudes for Relationships (Wisdom from Proverbs)
- Be Loving - Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
- Love takes giving! (3 Levels)
- Comfort Level - “If it’s convenient, fun, rewarding, affordable...”
- Sacrificial - Requires giving up something, but with tendency to “keep score,” compare, etc.
- Faith Level - Based on obedience to the WORD, What would Jesus do? (Lay down His life!)
- Be Consistent - Proverbs 20:6 "Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?
- Galatians 5:22 "Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering…"
- I Corinthians 13:4 - “Love suffereth long”
- Be Forgiving - Proverbs 17:9 “He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.”
- True test of forgiveness: if you can stop talking about the offense
- God forgives & forgets
- Be Confidential - Proverbs 11:13 “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.”
- A friend is someone who knows you as you are, understands where you've been, accepts who you've become, and still gently invites you to grow!"
- Be Sharpening - Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend.”
- You have a "Quickening Spirit" - Ephesians 2:1-5; I Corinthians 15:45, Romans 8:11
- Let the Holy Spirit in YOU rub off on others!
- Be Sensitive - Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body."
- "Spiritually Sensitive" to the needs of others
- Treat people with dignity!
- Be Honest - Proverbs 3:3,4 "Let not mercy and truth forsake thee… So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man."
- Speak positive words by FAITH
- I Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all thigs, endures all things."
- John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. (35) By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
