Feast of Trumpets

Blow the Trumpet in Zion – Mount Zion, City of David, Dwelling place of God, Your Heart
· Joel 2:1 “Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand.”
· Joel 2:12 “Even now, declares the LORD, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
· Joel 2:15 “Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly.”
· II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
7 Major Feasts of the Lord – Moadim (Heb.) – “Appointed Times”
· Passover – Christ died for our sins
· Unleavened Bread – He died to make us holy
· Firstfruits – Christ rose from the dead
· Pentecost – Holy Spirit sent for Harvest
· Trumpets – Christ returns with the trumpet sound
· Atonement – Israel turns to accept Messiah (look upon Him whom they have pierced)
· Tabernacles – God’s Kingdom established on earth
Feast of Trumpets – Rosh Hashanah “Head of the Year” (Jewish New Year)
· Leviticus 23:24 “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.”
· Foreshadows the rapture and second coming of Christ:
· I Corinthians 15:51-52 “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will be changed – in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
· I Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
The Return of the Lord – On the Mount of Olives, through the Golden Gate
· I Thessalonians 5:6 “Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
· Zechariah 14:4 “On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.”
· Acts 1:11 “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
Ten Days of Awe – For prayer, fasting, repentance. That God might relent from His judgement.
· The Book of Jonah is read – Story of Nineveh’s repentance and forgiveness
· Jonah 3:5 “The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.”
· Garden of Gethsemane (Oil Press) – A place of prayer for Jesus but the disciples fell asleep (Luke 22:46)
· Malachi 3:3 “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver.”
· Proverbs 17:3 “The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.”
· Song: Refiner’s Fire – “I choose to be Holy, set apart for You, my Master, ready to do your will.”
· Matthew 24:42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
· Revelation 22:7 “Behold I am coming soon!”
