Pray With Your Spirit

The Gift of Tongues

·      Acts 2:2 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. (3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (5) Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. (6) When they heard this sound (tongues), a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.”  

·      Acts 19:2 “He said to them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? (6) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”  

·      I Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit with.”

·      9 Gifts of the Spirit: Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Gifts of Healing, Working of Miracles, Prophey, Discerning of Spirits, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues.

·      Interpretation of Tongues – a distinctly different gift, for giving understanding to the language of God.

The Language of God

·      I Corinthians 14:2 “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit, in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”

·      I Corinthians 14:18 “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.”  

·      Romans 8:26 “The Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

·      Isaiah 28:11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. (12) To who he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yt they would not hear.”  

·      I Corinthians 14:4 “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself…”

·      Jude 1:20 “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”

It’s activated by my Faith

·      I Corinthians 14:14 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.”  

·      We have to activate the gift – It’s my choice, my voice, an act of my will. 

·      I Corinthians 14:15 “What is it then?  I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

·      Mark 16:17 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my Name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.” 

How to Receive

·      Luke 11:11 “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a   father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? (12) Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? (13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children:  how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?”

·      John 7:37 “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

·      Psalm 81:10 “…Open thy mouth wide and I will fill it.”
