“And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.” I Samuel 17:28
David was a shepherd boy, not a giant killer. Everyone knew that, especially his brothers, and they were obliged to remind him of his lack of qualification. They even suggested that David was acting in pride.
David rejected the negative. Verse :30: “. . : he turned from him toward another. . . . ” He turned away from his negative brother and kept moving toward the battle.
This world is a negative place. From childhood people are indoctrinated with the negative. Nursery rhymes, such as Jack and Jill, Humpty-Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, Rock-A-Bye Baby, all end in failure and distress.
God’s Word exhorts you to pull down those negative strongholds that bombard your THOUGHTS and IMAGINATIONS (See II Corinthians 10:4-5.), to not conform to the world’s pattern of behavior, but to be ‘TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2a) (Emphasis supplied.)
PRAY: “Father, at times I need to turn a deaf ear to people with negative attitudes. In the Name of Jesus, I pull down old strongholds gripping my thoughts. Please renew my mind today. Amen.”
