“. . . for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11b
Being content in the uncertainties of life is a condition that must be learned; that is, it does not come instinctively but, rather, by spiritual growth. So HOW do you learn?
1) By understanding the learning process. In John 16:33, Jesus assures there will be tribulations in this world. Ups and downs are a normal part of the learning process.
2) By seeing through the eyes of faith. God wants you to learn to trust Him regardless of what you SEE. When the angel told Mary that she was pregnant, Mary said, “How shall this be, seeing that I know not a man?” but, “be it unto me according to thy word.” (Luke 1:34b, 38b) (Emphasis supplied.)
3) By dying to the flesh and living to the Spirit. Jesus said, in John 12:25, “He that loveth his life [psyche – soul] shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal [Zoe – in Christ].”
4) By recognizing your true strength. Jesus said, in John 10:10b, “I am come that [you] might have life [Zoe – in Christ].” Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Emphasis supplied.)
PRAY: “Father, open my eyes and understanding so that I may learn to be content in all circumstances with Jesus. In His Name, I pray. Amen.”
