“But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6
This world is troubled and full of troubles. There are a lot of things about which to become discontented.
Being content, for the Christian, means putting complete trust in God, because his life is no longer his own. (See I Corinthians 6:19.) Somebody has coined the phrase, “Let go and let God!” Are you willing to trust Him for His answers, in His way, and in His time? The result of that trust will be contentment!
Discontentment, on the other hand, brings anxiety, tension, and fear…fear of failure…fear of the lack of finances…fear of the unknown…fear of relationships, and the list goes on. This kind of inner tension drives people to drugs, alcohol, and other addictions in an attempt to cover their emotional pain.
Discontentment comes when you put your trust in yourself or in your own solutions alone. True contentment, however, can be found only through trust and confidence in a living God whom you know to be interested in your welfare completely.
PRAY: “Gracious God, my Father, I whole heartedly put my trust in Your plan for my life. May I live in such a holy, godly way that true contentment results. I pray in Your Son’s Name. Amen.
