A Consuming Fire

“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29

God’s power is like FIRE. It has energy; it burns; it consumes. Van Deventer understood this FIRE when he wrote the words: “All to Jesus I surrender, Now I feel the sacred flame; Oh, the joy of full salvation!  Glory, glory to His name!”

This consuming FIRE will burn out of your flesh the desire for alcohol, drugs, and lustful passions. When selfish pleasures are all forsaken in total surrender to Jesus, God’s FIRE will clean out all other ungodly characteristics in your heart and soul so that they can be replaced with the mind of Christ and His behavior patterns…“Oh, the joy of full salvation!”

In I Corinthians 3:15, Paul says that every man’s works shall be tried by FIRE. Wood, hay, and stubble (representing works performed without faith and to be seen of men) will, of course, burn quickly and fiercely. Gold, silver, and precious stones (representing works performed through the direction of the Holy Spirit and with faith, whether or not visible to men) will come through the FIRE in purified form.

PRAY: “Awesome Father, thank You for Your sacred flame which brought me before You for cleansing, sanctifying, and purifying. Now fill me with Your joy and enable me to do Your bidding. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
