This year at the Feast of Tabernacles we will be constructing a Sukkah Village and you are invited to participate!  A sukkah, often translated as “booth”, is a temporary hut constructed for use during the week-long festival of Sukkot also called the Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles.  You may construct you own sukkah for Sukkah Village! The sukkah commemorates the time God provided for the Israelites after they were freed from slavery in Egypt.  It is reminiscent of the type of fragile dwellings made of tree branches in which the Israelites lived during their 40 years of travel in the wilderness.  It is common to eat and spend time in the sukkah during the Feast.  Sukkot is considered a joyous occasion and the sukkah is often decorated with harvest or Judaic themes. .  Please read Leviticus 23:33-44 and Nehemiah 8:14-17. We have provided plans you may use to construct a sukkah using inexpensive lumber and drywall screws.  Christian Retreat will provide palm branches for covering your sukkah.  You may also use your own design keeping in mind the size of your space will be 10 feet x 10 feet.  You may cover three sides with lattice, branches, palms etc. or you may simply leave the sides open and cover the top with palms.  Electric will be provided so you may use Christmas lights in your sukkah.  Feel free to use festive ornaments, assorted fruits etc. to decorate your sukkah as well as chairs and a table if you like.   If you use our plans the frame materials can be bought for $20.00 at Lowes or Home Depot.  Drywall screws Box of 90 1-5/8” $7.90. Wood: 1”x2”x8’ wood strips .85 each X 14 $11.90.  Please download our plans for details.  You may setup your sukkah on the East side of the Tabernacle at Christian Retreat anytime before or during the Feast.  Please email: connect@christianretreat.org with any questions and reserve your space today!
